Biography

Marjorie Ann Tylla, age 89, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, in the Fairview Regional Medical Center – Mesabi. She was born April 23, 1924, in Hibbing, the daughter of Gustav and Martha (Olson) Erickson. She graduated from Hibbing High School. Marjorie was united in marriage to Thomas John Tylla on May 9, 1941.
Marjorie worked as a homemaker, a waitress, and in the meat department at Piggly Wiggly for 16 years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, and the Women of the Elks. Marjorie was very active in sports and enjoyed playing horse shoes, golf, volleyball, bocce ball, and was a pitcher for the E.A. Young 1957 state champion women’s fast-pitch softball team from Hibbing. She also enjoyed bowling, curling and BINGO.
Marjorie is survived by her children: Leonard (Leona) Tylla of Side Lake, MN, and Diane M. (John) McClelland of Petaluma, CA; two grandchildren: Lance T. Tylla of Minneapolis, MN, and April E. Tylla of Appleton, WI; several nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend: Amelia Novak.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Thomas in 2008; and her sister: Doris L. Sunty.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Funeral Service Saturday, August 31, 2013, in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel. Greg Anderson will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the Chisholm Cemetery.
