Anya Leah Pete (Ma De Azik), age 38, of Virginia, and formerly of Tower died Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in Virginia. She was born October 24, 1980 in Virginia the daughter of Muriel Deegan and Peter Pete, Jr. She attended Virginia High School and the Tribal Trades Academy in Minneapolis where she received her certification as a cement mason.
Anya enjoyed spending time with her children and attending their various events. She was a rock collector and photographer. She enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and watching the MN Vikings.
Anya is survived by her mother: Muriel Deegan of Tower; children: Miigwen Tuchel of Virginia, Taquin Tuchel of Virginia, Lola Pete of Tower and Lyla Pete of Tower; siblings: Peter Deegan of Virginia, Juanita Deegan of Minneapolis, Margaret Pete of Virginia, Tristan (Keelie) Day of Soudan, Stacy Day of Minneapolis, Bern Day of Minneapolis, Anne Cook of Rice Lake, WI, Burton Benner of Virginia, Seth Leppala of Virginia, Erica Leppala of Tower, and Joey Leppala of Tower; half-brother: Kyle Chosa of Tower; half-sister: Donna Norton of Duluth; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father: Peter Pete, Jr; her Maternal Grandmother: Jeanette Deegan; her Paternal Grandparents; and her cousin: Katherine Deegan.
Visitation will be held beginning at 6pm, Friday, April 12, 2019, at the Vermilion Wellness Center in Tower. The Funeral Service will be held 10 am Saturday, April 13, 2019, also at the Wellness Center. Gilbert Smith and Eugene Goodsky will officiate. The Lake Vermilion Traditional Drum Singers will participate. Interment will be in the Vermilion Reservation Cemetery.
