Thomas "Tom" Higgins

Thomas William Higgins, born on February 15, 1984 to Jan and Bill Higgins, passed away on December 11, 2018, at age 34, at home in Eveleth, MN. Tom was greatly loved, and infinitely lovable.

Tom was a skilled craftsman, and had instinctual talent and natural aptitude for carpentry, masonry, cabinetry, cooking, and creating beauty with his hands. He was a proud "MacGuyver" of sorts. His life was not without trial, yet he possessed indeterminate strength of spirit. The loss of his mother in February 2018 brought him to new depths; however, from those depths he stood, head raised and eyes forward, with purpose and conviction.

Tom found a deepened closeness with family and friends, and he rediscovered many hopes and dreams. His meager means amplified his generous spirit; he shared with others constantly and abundantly. He was known for his sense of humor, which was quick and dry, and his outrageous facial hair styling. Tom treasured his friendships, and was always willing to lend his skills to help those around him. His dearest and most constant companion was his dog, Diamond, who brought him as much joy as any man could know.

Tom was loved beyond all time and measure, and our arms will welcome him into our embrace someday when we meet again. Til then, dear Tom, you are safe and well. May your soul rest in peace and rejoice in freedom.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Jan (Kapuscinski) Higgins; his grandparents Martha Martinson, Neale Kapuscinski, Mary and John Thorene, Jim and Elaine Higgins, and cousin Becky (Perrault) Conner.

He is survived by his father Bill (Sue) Higgins of Duluth, sister Kelly (Mike) Kleven, niece and nephew Aili and Colton, grandfather Gene Martinson, and extended family.

Family would like to extend a special hug to Christina Aaseng, and thanks to staff and friends at NERCC, Northland Recovery Center, The Carmelite Monastery, and The Monastery of St. Scholastica whose prayers for Tom have been unrelenting over the years. We are grateful to all those who knew and loved our Tommy Boy.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the 10:00 AM Mass of the Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Duluth, MN.
