Wallace E. Rosewall Obituary

Wallace E. “Wally” Rosewall, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, age 85 of Virginia died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in Essentia – St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth. He was born February 11, 1934 in Hibbing the son of William and Lucy (Butcher) Rosewall. Wally was a 1952 Graduate of Hibbing High School; a 1959 graduate of Dunwoody Institute; and served proudly in the United States Army.  He grew up in Hibbing, was a longtime resident of Virginia, and married Nancy Catani on June 8, 1974 in Virginia. Wally worked for Great Northern Railroad, J&L Steel, and Eveleth Taconite for 33 years until his retirement. He taught welding at the Career Development Center for US Steel. Wally enjoyed building street rods and his knowledge was appreciated by many friends. He was a jack of all trades, wasn’t afraid to tackle any job, and kept his sons’ and grandsons’ cars running. He enjoyed traveling, working in his garage, fishing in Canada, deer hunting and kibitzing at the local auto parts stores. Wally cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters; loved hunting with family and spending time at the lake. He had a keen interest in American History.

Wally is survived by his wife: Nancy; children: Danny (Kerry) Rosewall of Cumming GA, John A. Rosewall of Coon Rapids, Joe (Lyn) Rosewall of Indian Harbor Beach FL, Christine (Paul) Janssen of Hibbing and Carol Digby of Grand Rapids MN; twin brother: James Rosewall of Side Lake MN: grandchildren: Mitch (Renee), Johnny W. (Wendy), Dustin, Hunter, Devin, Dana, Emily, Joe and Dylan; great-granddaughters: Emma and Amber; nieces, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his Mother: Lucy Oling and step-father: Nestor Oling.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Kari Olson, SAM will officiate. A gathering time for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service at the Church. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Hibbing Park Cemetery Columbarium. Military honors will be accorded by the Virginia Servicemen’s Honor Guard.
