Obituary

Surrounded by her family, Devonna "Dee" Hanson, age 88 of Buhl passed peacefully on June 29, 2017 at the Essentia Health Hospice Unit, Virginia. She was born Adelaide Dubona (Devonna) Johnson on July 6, 1928 to Melvin Helmer and Gena (Gjevre) Johnson in Nash, ND. She graduated in 1946 and worked at the Walsh County State Bank of Hoople, ND. Her family moved to Newfolden, MN where she worked at the Ammundson and Lee Mercantile Store. While at work, she caught the eye of the love of her life, Ralph Hanson, and was married to her "Sugar Plum" on October 31, 1948. From a farm in rural Newfolden, they moved to Mt. Iron where they raised their family, and in 2004 moved to Buhl, MN.

She was a devoted wife and mother, who loved spending time with family and friends. She was always there to offer help whenever needed, to both friends and family. She never complained about anything. Everything, even to the end, was just fine, according to her. She was always proud of her 100% Norwegian heritage, and liked her coffee black. Amazingly, her most beloved activity was to clean house.

She is survived by her daughter: Judith Rae; son: Ronald (Pamela) Hanson; grandchildren: Robert (Rikki) Watson, Gwendolyn (Joseph) Pavelich, Tasha (Philip) Peliska, Andrew (Molly) Hanson, Joel Hanson, and David Hanson; great-grandchildren: Haley, Hanna, and Hunter Watson, Trevor Winger, Madison and Joey Pavelich, and Braden, Shaylin, and Elijah Peliska, and Isabelle and Azalea Hanson; sister: Joan (Stuart) Sethre, and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; parents: Melvin and Gena, and brother: Marlow Johnson.

The family is so very thankful to: Buhl Ambulance personnel, Virginia Essentia Health E.R., Hospital Doctors, Staff, and Hospice personnel for their excellent and compassionate care. We also wish to thank the prayers and support of the Virginia Bible Chapel and friends during this difficult time.

As per her request, a private family celebration of her life will be held on July 14, 2017 led by nephew, Pastor Marlin (Jeanine) Bjornrud.
