Adine Marie Anderson, age 93 of Babbitt, died Monday, April 22, 2013 in Edgewood Vista Care Facility in Virginia. She was born on the Wiger farm in rural Ulen, Clay County, MN, on April 12, 1920 the daughter of Alfred and Jessie (Sirjord) Wiger. She was a baptised and confirmed member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and attended school (1-12) in Ulen. After graduating from high school in 1938 she received a Teacher's certificate from Minnesota State Teacher's College. She taught elementary school for four years in country schools near Ulen, and did substitute teaching in Babbitt.
In 1944 she married Orville Anderson in Ulen. He liked to call her "Deenie". They farmed in Becker County for 12 years where they attended Atlanta Lutheran Church. In 1956 they moved with their family to Babbitt, MN, where Orville held various positions with Reserve Mining Company until his medical retirement in 1980. In 1962, they opened the Babbitt Laundromat and later Anderson's Clothing. After living in Babbitt for 50 years, Adine moved to Edgewood Vista in Virginia in 2006.
Adine was active in the Women of the ELCA at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt, was a member of the Sarah Circle, a charter member of Altar Guild and choir, a former Sunday School teacher and church organist. She was also a member of the "Do-Day" group – the quilt makers for L.W.R. plus served on the worship and music committee for several years. Adine was the accompanist at the first ballet and tap dance classes in Babbitt. She was a charter member of the local TOPS organization.
Adine is survived by children Orrine (Daven) Hanson, Bradley (Barbara) Anderson, Byron (Kathleen) Anderson, Gerald (Sharon Ericksson) Anderson; grandchildren Keely Perrizo (Rich) , Blake Hanson, Corey (Kari Hanson) Anderson, Jessie (Nick) Lodermeier, Julia (Jeremy) Macejkovic, Laura Anderson, Abe Anderson, Rebecca Anderson, Benjamin Anderson; great grandchildren Lindsey Anderson, Tori Anderson, Matthew Peckham, Brayden Olson, Bentley Olson, and Myla Macejkovic; sisters in law Jeanne Wiger and Darlene Wiger; nieces Melodie Wright, Rebecca Rieirson, Hannah Zincke; nephews: Joel Wiger, Eric Wiger, Karl Wiger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dale (1981), and husband, Orville (1990), her brothers Al Wiger and Conrad Wiger.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt. Pastor Ben Buchanan will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
