Ailie Esther Harrio, age 96 of Virginia and formerly of Embarrass, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 in the White Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born December 5, 1912 in Embarrass, the daughter of John and Hilda (Jokela) Dorff; and married Carl Harrio in 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Kenneth in 1963; husband Carl in 1970; sisters: Marion Harju and Sylvia Dorff; and brother: Norman Dorff.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and great grandmother loving, caring and supporting her family throughout her entire life. She was loved dearly by her family and will be greatly missed. Her memory will live in our hearts forever.
During her life, Ailie worked at the Embarrass Telephone Service for many years, Vertins in Ely, Arrow Shirt Factory in Virginia, and was Manager of Claire's Boutique in Virginia. She also worked in the shipyards in the state of Washington during WWII. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #156 in Tower, and the Quayle-Shuster-Truman-Muhich- American Legion Post # 241 Auxiliary.
Ailie is survived by grandchildren: Terry Halstead of Grand Rapids, MI; Chris (Jennifer) Halstead of Aurora, CO, Jeff (Jane) Halstead of Boyne City, MI and Jan (Mitch) (Halstead) Montgomery of Anchorage, AK; great grandchildren Tom, Steve and Ben Halstead of Boyne, City, MI; nieces and nephews, including: John (Barb) Harju of Embarrass, Glenn Harju of Virginia, MN and West Fargo, ND and Erv Dorff of Scottsdale, AZ; great nieces and nephews including Lindsey (Tim) (Harju) Klegstad whom she thought of as a granddaughter; daughter-in-law: Joyce (Boyd) Halstead of Big Rapids, MI; and step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Inurnment on June 13th will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia, with a gathering time of family and friends afterward. More details will be published at a later date.
