Biography

Aldo Leroy "Al" Arntz, age 86 of Babbitt, died peacefully Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Edgewood Vista in Virginia with his wife, Evelyn, and family at his side, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born April 16, 1927 in Parshall, North Dakota, the son of Arthur and Burnett (Peterson) Arntz , moved to the Lake Park, MN area at age 7 and attended High School in Ulen, MN. Aldo was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army, serving in the Military Police and after his discharge, married Evelyn Marie Handegard on April 9, 1949, in Lake Park Lutheran Church. After their marriage, they lived and farmed in the Lake Park area; moving to Babbitt in 1956. Al resided in Babbitt for 57 years, working for Reserve Mining Co. and later he and Evie owned and operated several businesses in the Babbitt area. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt and past member of the Babbitt Lions Club. AL enjoyed his family, a good laugh, and traveling. He was always ready for a game of billiards, liked playing horseshoes, snowmobiling, and dance club.
Aldo is survived by his wife of 64 years: Evelyn; children: Bonnie (Jack) Eickhoff of St. Cloud, Greg (Jean) Arntz of Britt, and Jeff (JoLynn) Arntz of Ely; siblings: Arla Storbeck of Plymouth, MN, and Verla Bernards of Wayzata, MN; grandchildren: Brian Eickhoff, Kristin Eickhoff, Nick Arntz, AJ Arntz, Amber Arntz, and Autumn Arntz; one great-granddaughter; extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Burnett.
A Gathering time for family and friends will be held Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia and will continue Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. memorial service at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt. Military honors accorded by the Babbitt VFW Post # 1539 and the Maki-Pinola American Legion Post # 535 Honor Guard. Inurnment will follow in the Argo Cemetery in Babbitt.
Memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Sand Lake Shuffle, the Essentia East Range Hospice, or the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt.
