Alvin John Peterson, age 69 of Virginia died Tuesday, May 16, 2017. He was born June 5, 1947 in Virginia, the son of Edwin Jon and Anna Helen (Moscatelli) Peterson and was a graduate of Virginia High School and the Eveleth Vocational Technical College. Alvin was married to Elaine Margaret Hyrkas, and was a lifelong Virginia area resident. He delivered the Mesabi Daily News and the Duluth News Tribune for over 40 years, was employed by Inland Steel, the Virginia Public Utilities, Virginia Fire Department, Dairy Queen, Holiday Station Stores, and the M&H Gas Station. Alvin was a member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church, was a baseball and softball umpire, and loved teaching kids baseball.

Alvin is survived by son: Kevin of Iron, MN; sister: Marie Johnson of Bowling Green, Ohio extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother.

A memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate. A Gathering time for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will take place in the Cherry Cemetery.
