Obituary

Arnold William "Arnie" Niemi, age 86 of Virginia died Sunday, February 16, 2025 in his home, surrounded by family. He was born October 23, 1938, in Biwabik, the son of Sulo and Dagmar (Huhtala) Niemi, raised in Pike River, and was a graduate of Embarrass High School. Arnie married Judy Kober on October 21, 1961, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Virginia. The couple lived in Pike River until moving to Virginia in 1962. Arnie was employed as a driver for Aluni Distributing, as a track boss for US Steel – Minntac, he got laid off and attended the Eveleth Vo-Tech for auto mechanics in his mid-life; was employed as a car salesman for Waschke-Williams, Iron Trail Motors, Security Service, Phillips Chevrolet, and 2nd Avenue Auto. Arnie also shared his time and talents with the DAC in Eveleth.

He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the longtime Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and a longtime member of the East Range Vintage Auto Club. Arnie loved all things about cars and had amassed a collection of over 400 die-cast cars. He also wore Christian ties to church every Sunday. Arnie was always in attendance at his children's and grandchildren's school concerts, functions, and activities. He will be remembered as a quiet, kind man of few words and much wisdom. He will be greatly missed.

Arnie is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 63 years: Judy; daughter: Tammy Sederlund of Virginia; son: Todd Niemi of Superior; grandchildren: Andrew (Danielle Hoppe) Sederlund of Plymouth, Stephanie (Adam) Smith of Chicago, Kaylie Niemi of Moorhead, and Rachel Niemi of Rochester, NY; a great-granddaughter on the way; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Eileen Payne, Edith Hietala, and Edmund Niemi; son-in-law: Tony Sederlund; and brother-in-law: Gary Kober.

A Gathering time for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Virginia. The Memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Brad Felix will officiate.

Memorials are preferred.
