Arthur "Art" Raymond Bjerga, age 89, a longtime resident of Hibbing died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Hummingbird Assisted Living in Meadowlands. He was born May 29, 1925 in Orwell Twp., Ottertail County, the son of Albert and Raghnild ((Djuvik) Bjerga. Art was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving aboard the USS Adhara and the USS Thomas; and a member of the former VFW Post 8510. He was a driver for Century Motor Freight for over 30 years. Art had a strong work ethic and a great sense of humor. He especially enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, and farming were among his favorites along with road cruising and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Art is survived by his children: Arthur C. (Lynn Jarvi) Bjerga, Jr. of Hibbing, Gregory (Barb) Bjerga of Hibbing, Peggy (Russell) Mortensen of Pengilly, Janet (George) Hawkins of Deer River, William Bjerga, James (Monica) Bjerga of Elk River, Valerie (Rick) Norenberg of Hibbing, Linda (Bob) Bobst of Wadena, and Bonnie (Marv) Schiffler of Mesa, AZ; Sisters: Olga Shake of Motley, and Esther Barton of Plymouth, IN; 24 Grandchildren; 38 Great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Chris, Mikkel, Harold, Swen and Alvin; Sisters: Thelma Garrison and Ruth Wax; wife: June; fiancée's: Lorraine Geihler and Loretta Chappel.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home in Hibbing and will continue from 12:00 noon until the 2:00 pm service Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hibbing Park - Maple Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard.
