Arthur Henry "Sonny" Raihala, age 74 of Virginia died Saturday, September 24, 2011 in the Virginia Convalescent Center. He was born February 13, 1937 in Gilbert, the son of Arthur August and Tyne Marie (Lehto) Raihala graduated from Keewatin High School and received an Associate of Science Degree from Hibbing Junior College and attended North Dakota State University. Sonny lived in Gilbert, Aurora, and in Indiana during his childhood. He then resided in Virginia, Minneapolis, and Keewatin prior to returning to Virginia. Sonny was employed by Pillsbury as a flour analyst; he was also employed as a baker for the Sunrise Bakery in Hibbing and the Italian Bakery in Virginia. He was a former clarinetist in the Keewatin City Band, and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hibbing.
Sonny is survived by a sister: Shirley J. Jarvela of Green Valley, AZ; aunt: Elsie Lehtinen of Aurora; nieces: Elizabeth Lanari of Tucson, AZ and Jeanne (Mark) Antonich of Hibbing; grand nieces and nephews: Angela (Jason) Collard of Duluth, Larry (Brooke) Lanari of Eagan, Tina (Greg) Bambach of Marquette, MI, Jacquie (Chris) Akstulewicz of Virginia, Dan (Kayla) Lanari of Socorro, NM and Lauren, Alex and Rachel Antonich of Hibbing; 9 great-great grand nieces and nephews and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother: Robert James Raihala.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 10 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. Pastor Bob Simensen will officiate. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Gilbert Cemetery.
