Barbara M. Yapel, age 72 died at Villa Siena in Mt. View, CA on Monday, September 22, 2014. She was born November 16, 1941 in Soudan, MN the daughter of Anthony F. and Barbara (Nemanich) Yapel, Sr. Barbara graduated as co-valedictorian of the Tower-Soudan High School class of 1959. She graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in June 1963 with a degree in Medical Records. She was first employed as Assistant Director and later as Director of Medical Records at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. She moved to Phoenix in 1969, to California in 1973 and was employed at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose until her retirement in 2006.
She is survived by her brother: Dr. Anthony F. (Agnes) Yapel, Jr. of Roseville and Lake Vermillion; nephews Tim (Carol) Yapel, Bob (Theresa) Yapel, Mike (Manette) Yapel and David (Kristin) Yapel; niece: Terese (Lawrence) Ricci and sister-in-law: Mary Yapel; as well as great nieces and nephews: Valentina Yapel, Brandon Yapel, Victoria Yapel, Christine Yapel, Joey Yapel and many cousins. Her cousin Ann Liebmann of Santa Clara was a loving and supportive presence in her life for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother George.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in the summer of 2015. Inurnment will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery in Tower. Memorials may be directed to the Tower-Soudan Historical Society.
