Benjamin Earl Holmes, age 21 of Idington, MN died unexpectedly at home on June 25, 2012. He was born April 2, 1991 in Virginia, the son of Stacey Hazen and Jonathan Holmes. He attended Cook High School and Mesabi Range College, graduating in 2009. Ben spent the past three years at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD majoring in geological engineering. He was a member of Theta Tau fraternity.
Ben's passions were hunting, fishing, animals, golfing, snowmobiling, cooking, camping, shooting, video games, hot sauces, and electronic gadgets of all types. He was an easygoing, good-natured young man who could bring a smile to anyone's face. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Ben is survived by his parents: Stacey Hazen of Spearfish, SD and Jonathan Holmes of Idington, MN; brother: Nate Holmes; grandparents: Jim & Alice Hazen; uncles: Mike (Sheri) Holmes and Chris (Joyce) Holmes; aunts: Sharon Holmes and Rachel Holmes; cousins: Jason (Sarah) Skaggs, Jenny Holmes, Matt Holmes, Sam Holmes, Seth Holmes, Simon Holmes, Max Skaggs, Linda Reese, Missy Hazen and Matt Hazen; special friend: Jennifer Stevens; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Arden and Gladys Holmes; and brother: Jared.
A Gathering Time for Family and Friends will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the residence of Mike and Sheri Holmes in Idington, 8123 Hwy 53. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Idington Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Contented Critters in Makinen.
