Sergeant First Class Bradley Brian Lahti, age 33 of Robbinsdale, MN died on December 11, 2012. He was born July 3, 1979 in Virginia, the son of Brian C Lahti and Evelyn (Johnson) Lahti. He grew up in Wuori Township, rural Virginia and spent his childhood summers on Lake Vermilion. Brad graduated from Virginia High School in 1997 and from the Hibbing Community College in the Electrical Maintenance Program in 1999. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University, St. Paul in 2011. Brad was a member of the IBEW Local 292 in Minneapolis and was currently the Health and Safety Coordinator at Starkey Hearing Technologies in Eden Prairie, MN. He married Amanda Kangas on August 23, 2003 in Virginia.
Brad joined the Minnesota National Guard at age 17. He was deployed from 2005-2007 to Iraq with the Alpha Troup, 1st Squadron, 94th Cavalry Regiment, Red Bulls OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and a 2nd deployment to Kuwait May 2011 – May 2012 in support of OPERATION NEW DAWN obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class and was presented with the prestigious Bronze Star Medal.
Bradley is survived by his wife: Amanda Lahti and their two year old son, Preston Bradley Lahti of Robbinsdale; his parents, Brian (Nancy) Lahti of Tower and Evelyn (Rick Kinnunen) Lahti of Virginia; sisters: Alison (Nathan) Andreasen of Moorhead, MN and Erin (Troy Hancock) Lahti of Chaska, MN; grandmother: Eleanor Johnson of Virginia, MN; mother-in-law: Sharon Kangas of Virginia; sisters-in-law: Nicole (Josh) Brown and Kristen (Troy Oklak) Kangas; aunt: Janet (Ron) Stadtherr of Backus, MN; uncles: James Lahti of Virginia, Brett (Susan) Johnson of Esko, MN, and Eric (Patty) Johnson, St. Bonifacius, MN; nieces and nephews: Jacob, Carter, Sienna, Oliver, Elliette, Ryder and Asher; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather: Roy Johnson; grandparents: Arne & Clara Lahti; and father-in-law Herbert Kangas.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. The Visitation will continue on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service at Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia.
Memorials are preferred to support Veterans, the Military, or the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
