Byron I. Trimble, age 96 a longtime resident of Lake 14 – Britt, died Friday, February 21, 2014 in the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay. He was born December 5, 1917 in Virginia the son of John W. and Fae (Scott) Trimble and was a 1937 graduate of Virginia Roosevelt High School. Byron was employed as a taxi driver, worked for Grande Hardware, Western Union in the paper warehouse in Chicago, and later worked for US Steel as an Engineer's Helper where he helped survey and lay out the Minntac tailings basin and retired after 30 years of service. He proudly served in the European Theatre of Operations with the US Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in February of 1945. Byron married Eva Bishop on November 21, 1942 in North Carolina while on a three day pass. After returning from the war he bought his little slice of heaven on Lake 14, at the time when that was not considered a good investment to own land in the "middle of nowhere." He was a founding member of the Lake 14 Lake Leander Club. He was always available to help his neighbors and friends, he loved to stop by and say hello over a cup of coffee. He was known around the lake as the unofficial Mayor of Lake 14. He was a longtime member of the Sand Lake Chapel where he served as Head Usher, a former member of the Virginia United Methodist where he also served in many capacities; a member of the Pratt - Volden - Mickelson - Anderson American Legion Post # 239, the Odd Fellows Lodge and was a founding member of the Evergreen Fire Department. They lived in Virginia on the north side until 1977 when they moved into their slice of heaven permanently.
Byron is survived by children: Bonnie (Jerry) Meier of Embarrass and John (Karen) Trimble of Lake 14 – Britt; grandchildren: Kelli (Scott) Heaton, Adam (Sheree) Meier, Jessica (Robert) Hafermann, Gerri Meier, Rebekah (Stephan) Gorny, Mark Wittrock, Jason Wittrock, and Kimberlee Wittrock; great-grandchildren: Andrew and Aidan Heaton, and Evan Gorny; extended family, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife: Eva; sisters: Helen Schafer and Irene Eilers and a brother in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 1, 2014 in the Sand Lake Chapel. Pastor Richard Lohry will officiate. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the Virginia Servicemen's Honor Guard.
