Carl Michael Sarich, age 68 of Mountain Iron, died unexpectedly Monday, June 25, 2018 in his home of natural causes. He was born November 20, 1949 in Virginia, MN the son of Steve and Mildred (Johnson) Sarich. Carl graduated from Gilbert High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Winona State University on June 11, 1973. He joined the United States Army at age 20 and served 33 years in the Army, National Guard, and Army Reserve; being promoted to Captain in 1981. Carl retired from the Mt. Iron-Buhl Schools in 2007. He was a football coach for Eveleth Gilbert, Hibbing Community College, a longtime Head Coach at MIB, and inducted into the MIB Football Hall of Fame in 2016. After his retirement, Carl was employed as a courier for Edward's Oil Co. Carl loved football; fishing, especially ice fishing; and he enjoyed motorcycle rides. He was a good friend for many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Carl is survived by his wife: Raija Sarich; stepson: Miika (Amy) Otava; stepgrandchildren: Angela Otava, and Elias Otava; sisters: Martha (Stanley) Klekotka, Teresa Sarich, and Stephanie Sarich; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Sarfehjooy.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gilbert. Reverend Father Michael Garry will be the Celebrant. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the Church. Private interment will take place in the Biwabik Township Cemetery. Military Honors are accorded by the Virginia Serviceman's Honor Guard.
