Caroline
Lenes
Jan 7, 1916 — Jun 14, 2012
Caroline "Kay" Lenes
Caroline Christine "Kay" Lenes of Hibbing passed into God's Kingdom on June 14, 2012 in the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Chisholm. She lived a full and rewarding 96 year life. She was born in Fosston, MN, the daughter of Hans and Anna (Grossarth) Smelver on January 7, 1916 and married Theodore Lenes in 1934, after he proclaimed, after changing her diapers as an infant that," he would marry her someday". The Lenes family moved to Hibbing in 1943.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing; a life golden member of the Sons of Norway Midnatsolen Lodge # 058; and a participant in the Lighthouse for the Blind. Prior to losing her eyesight, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, tatting, making lefse, jams and jellies; crossword puzzles, genealogy, and gardening. She enjoyed attending concerts and social events with Therese and Amy and was an avid Twins fan.
Caroline was employed as a Nurse's Aide/central supply at the Hibbing General Hospital for 25 years and helped relocate to the new hospital prior to retiring. She was a charter resident of the Lee Center from its opening in 1981 until she moved to Hillcrest Suites in 2009.
She provided a playground to the myriad Seventh Avenue kids for baseball, football, and other "games" played with the Lenes kids from the 40's through the 60's. She provided a loving and caring personality laced with a sense of humor to all whose paths she crossed. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Caroline was the mother of seven children and is survived by Betty (John) Adamich of Apple Valley, MN, Donald Lenes of Minneapolis, Richard (Jan) Lenes of Madison, WI, Peter (Susan) Lenes of Gulfport, MS; daughters-in-law: Marge Lenes of Hibbing and Therese Ivanca of Chisholm; grandchildren: Greg Adamich, Dana Saba, Valerie Long, Stacy Manshak, Lance Lenes, Kristin Jorgenson, Chad Lenes, Sean Lenes, and Amy Ivanca; sisters: Wilma Pingatore of Menominee Falls, WI and Stella Lindberg of Duluth; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1964, sister Dora Emerson in 1979, daughter: Carol Getman in 2007, sons: Theodore, Lenes, Jr. in 2000 and Robert "BoJo" Lenes in 1994; grandson: Michael Lenes, and great-grandson: Shane Quincy.
