Cenia Bjellos McNairy, age 91, of Hibbing and formerly of Washington, DC, Annapolis, MD, and Jacksonville, FL, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in Heritage Manor in Chisholm following a brief stay. She was born February 12, 1921, in Carson Lake, MN, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Lagather) Bjellos. She graduated from Hibbing High School and Hibbing Jr. College. She was united in marriage to John V. McNairy on June 29, 1947, in Washington, DC, and they enjoyed 56 years together.
Cenia worked as a Secretary for the Department of the Navy. She was a member of St. Michael's Serbian Orthodox Church in Hibbing. She enjoyed cooking, reading crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Beginning in 1974, she and John enjoyed spending their summers on Swan Lake, and their winters in Annapolis, MD, and Jacksonville, FL.
Cenia is survived by her sister: Patricia Welte (Tom Runningen) of Bemidji, MN; two brothers: Michael (Shirley) Bjellos of Nashwauk, MN, and Gordon (Elaine) Bjellos of Hixton, WI; a sister-in-law: Barbara Bjellos of Hibbing, MN; two brothers-in-law: Richard Latvala of Nashwauk, MN, and Addison McNairy of Daytona Beach, Fl; 15 nieces and nephews; and 19 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John in 2002; three brothers: Peter, Eli, and James; three sisters: Violet, Marion, and Margaret; and a special sister-in-law and dear friend: Maxine Bjellos.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Funeral Service Saturday, February 2, 2013, in St. Michael's Serbian Orthodox Church. The Reverend Fr. Vladimir Lange will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Casket bearers will be Cenia's nephews. Memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Serbian Orthodox Church.
