Charles Forrest "Charlie" Miller, age 90 of Hibbing died Thursday, July 09, 2009 in the Fairview University Medical Center. He was born January 21, 1919 in Wausau, WI, the son of Anton and Nina (Seipp) Miller and married Joyce Schuneman on June 16, 1950 in Madison, WI. Charlie was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in Galena, Alaska as a staff sergeant in cryptology during WWII; and later enlisted in the Air Force Reserve. He attended UW Madison, received his Teaching Degree from UW Steven's Point; and later attended Indiana University – Bloomington and received his Master's Degree from UW Madison. Charlie taught in Rothschild, Mosinee, and Whitewater, WI prior to moving to Hibbing in 1953. He retired in 1981, and continued to serve as a substitute teacher with the St. Louis County School District. He was proud of his membership in the famed Mickey Mouse Club, and was a member of the Hibbing Lion's Club. Charlie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing serving on the session and as a trustee for several terms. Charlie was a concerned advocate for anyone needing assistance; and had a special passion to help the mentally handicapped, serving on the ARC Board in Virginia, and was Past President of the Hope ARC in Hibbing. He helped both the Hibbing and Chisholm School Districts to improve educational opportunities for the mentally handicapped.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 59 years: Joyce; children: Daniel (Marit Gladem) Miller of Mpls., Richard (Celita) Miller of Bloomington, MN, Patricia (Rodney) Graham of Cherry Twp., David (Pamala Weber) Miller of Golden Valley, Conrad (Dawn) Miller of St. Paul, Jeffrey (Sandy) Miller of Shakopee, Bryan (Terri) Miller of Burns Twp, MN, and Kirk Miller of Virginia; grandchildren: Lee Miller, Randy Miller, Beth Miller, Kyle Miller, Andrew Graham, Crystal Graham, Justin Miller, Tasha Miller, Keith Miller, and Ben Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and siblings: Antoinette Miller, Arthur Miller, and Vernon Miller.
Visitation will be held Sunday July 12, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Anderson Daniels Funeral Home Chapel in Hibbing. Visitation will continue Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service in the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing. Pastor Jim Deters will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hibbing Park- Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred.
