Obituary

CLARA ROTH

Clara took her last breath, Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm with her beloved son by her side. God must have needed another teacher in Heaven! Born in Chisholm on February 3, 1913, Clara graduated from Chisholm High School and later, Denver University. She began her teaching career with stops in San Diego, CA and Benton Harbor, MI. Clara taught in Virginia at the Horace Mann and Washington Elementary Schools for over 20 years. Upon retirement, she returned to her Roth family residence in Chisholm. She lived a very private, frugal life. Clara owned and operated the former Roth Liquor Store in Chisholm, and later became a caretaker for her parents and sister. For enjoyment, she baked bread with her mother and sister, loved hanging clothes out on the line, raking leaves, gardening, and cleaning the whole house. Clara enjoyed working! But her favorite thing was mothering. Mother's Day was named for her! For about 60 years, Clara provided shelter, food, and advice for her son. Some of her favorite quotes were: "put a hat on, you'll catch a cold", "Wash your hands, there's a lot of germs out there", Eat your vegetables, they're good for you", and "watch the road, there's a lot of crazy drivers out there".
Clara was preceded in death by her parents: Jennie and Ben Roth, her sister and best friend: Helen F. Roth, the Louis Roth family of Hibbing, and countless friends, neighbors, and former students.
She is survived by her "good" son: Marshall "Mo´she" Roth Pearlman of Duluth.
The family would like to thank all the many caregivers at Heritage Manor for their kindness in treating her with respect and dignity during her stay. Also, thank you to Dr. William Durie, the Chisholm Police Dept., the Chisholm Ambulance Service, Healthline, and the staff at Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing. Also to the staff of the Virginia Regional Medical Center's Rehab Center for your tremendous care during her previous stay. To her special neighbors and friends: She could not have endured all of her hardships and lived to a robust age without you! To the Petersons, Albergs, Vukichs, the Waters boy, Maimie, Vivian, and her dear friend "Money": You gave her support and comfort during her loneliest years. Your phone calls and cards meant the world to her. Lastly, to Sasha Anderson, her neighbor, personal shopper, care taker, granddaughter she never had, and great friend: You are wise beyond your years. Thank you for your adoring support, help, patience, and unbelievable kindness during Clara's life. You will always be an integral part of our family.
Per Clara's wishes, burial will be along side her family in the Roth Plot of the Range Hebrew Cemetery in Virginia with a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed, in the Roth Family name to: Friends of B'nai Abraham, 1788 Maryland Ave. North, Golden Valley, MN 55427; to restore and preserve the Jewish history of the Iron Range.
