Blackwood
Aug 21, 1934 — Jul 5, 2009
1-888-579-7953 Code: 74804P
Clark Edward Blackwood, age 74 of Virginia died Sunday, July 5, 2009 in the St. Michael's Care Center. He was born August 21, 1934 in Duluth, the son of Amos and Esther (Fosness) Blackwood and was a graduate of Duluth Central High School and Central Wyoming College. Clark married Carolyn Harris on October 27, 1956 in Duluth. They moved to Phoenix in 1961 where he worked for Alison Steel. In October of 1970, they returned to Minnesota and made their home at the Harris Homestead in Markham. There he loved to garden and raise animals in his spare time from his job at US Steel Minntac; and was a founding member of the TRRA Ranch. In 1976, Clark and Carolyn purchased the Markham Country Store and renamed it Blackwood's Market. They enjoyed serving the public for five years before Clark was transferred by US Steel to the Lander, WY mine. The mine's subsequent closing allowed Clark and Carolyn to move on campus at Central Wyoming College in Riverton. They both earned their degrees before moving to Las Vegas, NV. Clark's love for Minnesota drew him home and back to Minntac. His return provided him the opportunity to do what he loved: camping with Carolyn, spending time with the guys at the shack, playing cribbage with friends, reading, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his children and his beloved granddaughters.
Clark is survived by his wife: Carolyn; children: Patti "Haris" (Donna Foy) Blackwood of Portland, OR, Wendy (Shawn) McKenna of Virginia, and Clark (Audrey) Blackwood II of Eveleth; sisters: Lynne (Ray) Davis of Duluth and Carol (Ron) Stork of Grand Rapids; grandchildren: Nicole Blackwood of Eveleth, Katy (Todd) Kimball of Rosemount, and Megan McKenna of Minneapolis; numerous nieces and nephews; and his ever present companion: Maddie his rescued Papillon. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Dale Blackwood and a sister: Eileen Schroeder.
