Daniel Lee Greiner, age 59, longtime resident of rural Eveleth and formerly of Hibbing, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in his home following a 5 year battle with cancer. He was born December 7, 1954, in Virginia, MN to Robert L. and Jean (McKibbon) Greiner. He graduated from Hibbing High School. Dan was united in marriage to Carol Simonson on June 23, 1979, in Cook, MN.
Dan grew up working in the family business, Greiner Brothers Cleaning, in Hibbing. He worked 3 seasons as a fishing guide for Westcott's Launch Service on Leech Lake, then in 1978 became the owner/operator of Greiner Cleaning in Virginia. Dan was a perfectionist who took great pride in his work. He enjoyed both his work and his customers, many of whom became dear friends. Dan loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved to laugh and to talk, and was an entertaining storyteller. Dan loved and enjoyed his family, and was especially thrilled with his new granddaughter. He was a man of simple faith in God, with a growing love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Dan is survived by his wife: Carol; five children: Rachel Greiner of Hibbing, Katie Greiner of Brasov, Romania, Peter (Taryn McCue) Greiner of Eveleth, John Greiner of Eveleth, and James Greiner of Duluth; a granddaughter: Becca Greiner; five siblings: Bob Greiner of Nevada, Jerry Greiner of South Carolina, Debbie (Chris) Stepp of Minnesota, Sherry Greiner of Wisconsin, and Mary Greiner of Wisconsin; and many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dan's parents preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be 3pm, Sunday, April 13, 2014, with a visitation from 2-3pm immediately preceding the funeral, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Midway. The Reverend John Cowan will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia.
