Obituary

David Alan Carlson, age 61, passed away January 7, 2026, at his home in Gautier, Mississippi.  He was born December 9, 1964, in Hibbing, MN, to Jack Carlson, Sr. and Florence Carlson.  His childhood days were spent in Ellynwood Addition in Hibbing.  He attended the First Baptist Church in Hibbing.  He attended elementary school at Cobb Cook and Greenhaven, and later graduated from Hibbing High School in 1983.


David worked at Pizza Hut and K-Mart in Hibbing.  He enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.  He enlisted in the US Navy in 1986 – proudly serving his country for 4 years.  Following his honorable discharge he worked in Minneapolis.  He then moved to Mississippi after getting a card from a Navy buddy asking him to come to Mississippi.  He found a home in Gautier, MS, and lived there for 30 years.  He worked in Biloxi and Gulfport, MS, as a cook.


David married the love of his life, Mary Scott, on October 28, 2013.  He had a dog he called "Poncho his Mississippi Dog".  He enjoyed living in Mississippi with its beaches and warm weather.


He is survived by his Mother: Florence Carlson of Hibbing, MN; Brothers: Jack (Ginny) Carlson, Jr. of Hibbing, Kenneth Carlson of Hibbing, and Kevin Carlson of Chisholm, MN; Nieces: Alicia (Eric) Thomsen of Hibbing, Nicole (Robert) Wierimaa of Hibbing; Nephew: Andrew Carlson of Eveleth, MN; Grand-nieces: Talia, Natalie, and Addison; Aunts: Irene Nelson of Edina, MN, Judy (Ed) Luukkonen of Ely, MN; Former sister-in-law: Cheryl Carlson of Virginia, MN; and Numerous cousins and friends.


He was preceded in death by his Father: Jack Carlson, Sr.; his Wife: Mary Carlson; Grandparents: Henry and Saimi Carlson, and David and Fanny Sipinen; Poncho his Mississippi Dog; Cousins: Bill Carlson, Douglas Heikkinen, Debbie DeJarlais; and Numerous Aunts and Uncles.


Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Saturday, May 9, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Hibbing.  Pastor Wyatt Helgeson will officiate.  Burial will be in the Wawina Cemetery, Wawina, MN.
