David J. Stenstrom, age 74, longtime resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, in St. Mary's Medical Center, in Duluth following his battle with cancer. He was born September 10, 1936 in Ironwood, MI, the son of Meller and Ina (Somppi) Stenstrom. He graduated from High School in Ironwood, and went on to briefly attend UWS. He was united in marriage to Karen Pumala on August 17, 1957 in Ironwood.
David worked in the Parts Department at Northwoods Ford – retiring after 25 years of service. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and following the MN Twins. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
David is survived by his children: Scott (Rachel) Stenstrom of Hibbing, Bret (Shelly) Stenstrom of Hibbing, Tod (Jennifer) Stenstrom of Minneapolis, and Jodi (Paul) Knutson of Maplewood; siblings: A. Betty Stenstrom of Royal Oak, MI, Ruth Young of Cleveland Heights, OH, Nancy (Roy) Mueller of Audubon, PA, and Ralph (Kathryn) Stenstrom of Clinton, NY; 9 grandchildren: Emily (Tyler) Schwerzler, Matthew Stenstrom, Molly Stenstrom, Blake Stenstrom, George Knutson, Megan Knutson, Mitchell Stenstrom, Thomas Knutson, and Ida Stenstrom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife: Karen in 2005; 3 brothers: Douglas, Clarence "Bunny", and Ray; and a sister: Jean Buckley.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel in Hibbing. The Reverend John Dietz will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
