Delores M. "Dolly" Nevala, age 80 of Embarrass passed away very unexpectedly Friday, September 25, 2015 in Essentia-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. She was born December 20, 1934 in Florenton, the daughter of Charles and Hilda (Anderson) Abelson and attended Virginia Schools. Dolly grew up in Florenton and married Bob Nevala on August 3, 1951 in Virginia and moved to Embarrass in 1953. She was employed by the Cluett Peabody Arrow Shirt Factory in Virginia and was a homemaker. Dolly was a lifetime member of Sisu Heritage and had served as a guide for the Finnish Heritage Homestead Tours; and enjoyed the weekly coffee clutch at the Embarrass Town Hall, doing crosswords, word jumbles, sudoku, and taking daily walks. She loved dancing to the beat of a good polka, RVing in the southern states for the winter; traveling in the US and Finland, meeting new people, doing family genealogy, and quilting. Dolly was known for her infectious smile and famous for her Finnish flatbread, Biscuit, and apple pie and attending every family get-together.
Dolly is survived by her husband: Bob; children: Lyle (Deborah) Nevala of Duluth, Linda (Ronnie) Dale of Warroad, and Steven Nevala of Chaska; siblings: Lorrayne Aysta of Albert Lea and Glenn (Lillian) Abelson of Zimmerman; grandchildren: Leslie Hanna, Christopher Nevala, Jonathan Nevala, Megan Nevala, Tia (Scott) Moyer and Cari (Kevin) Hoffman; great-grandchildren: Emily, Sydney, Mikaila, Keegan, Jaron, Korbyn, Kanon, Keaton, and Jayce; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Daryl Nevala; infant son: Bruce Nevala; and grandson: Travis Nevala.
A Gathering time for family and friends will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:0 a.m. Celebration of Life Service in the Timber Hall in Embarrass. Pastor Marlin Bjornrud will officiate. Private inurnment will take place at the family plot in the Embarrass Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of Dolly's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
