Delores Kathryn Schoonover, age 78 of Virginia died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in Essentia Health – Virginia. She was born July 31, 1939 in Wawina MN, the daughter of Waino and Lempi (Hinkkanen) Siermala and was a graduate of Duluth Central High School, class of 1957. Delores married William Schoonover, Jr. on September 30, 1961 in Chisholm. She lived in Wawina, Cedar Valley, and Duluth prior to moving to Virginia. Delores was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia and was employed as a hearing aid specialist for 26 years. She enjoyed reading, ceramics, other hand work, was generous, helpful and a very good listener. Delores lived true to her Finnish heritage with quiet determination against impossible odds and lots of Sisu.

Delores left a legacy of love to her daughters: Shelly (Scott) Steinberg of Buhl and Sandra (Rick) Curtis of Missoula, MT; and sister: Jane Oman of Cibolo, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents and Husband: Bill in 2014.

The Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia. Pastor Mickey Olson will officiate. A gathering time for family and friends will begin one hour to the service at the church. Spring inurnment will take place in the Cedar Valley Cemetery.
