Biography

Donald J. Bergquist passed away March 31, 2015 in the Eveleth Fitzgerald Nursing Home at the age of 90 Years, 3 Months, 19 Days. He was born December 12, 1924 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of John and Mildred (Favrow) Bergquist; and married Jean McCullough on May 7, 1948 in Thief River Falls, MN. Don lived in the Thief River Falls area there until February 1951 when he came to Chisholm and started working for the Oliver Mining Company. He retired from US Steel Minntac in June of 1987 after 36 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and big family dinners.
Don is survived by his wife of 67 years: Jean Bergquist; daughter: Nancy (John) Kleschult; son: Gary (Sharon) Bergquist; daughter-in-law: Jodie Bergquist; grandsons: Erik (Stacey) Haugland and Kevin Haugland; great-grandchildren: Breanna Haugland, Brock Haugland and Brett Haugland; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Jack Bergquist on April 17, 2014; one brother; three sisters, and a son-in-law: Carl Haugland.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service in the United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth. Pastor Joel Rova-Hegener will officiate. Private family interment will take place in the Eveleth Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Alzheimer's Research.
