Donald C. Elmquist, age 90, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at St. Raphaels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth, MN. He was born March 19, 1927 in Kensington, Minnesota, the son of Alfred and Betsy (Mithun) Elmquist. He attended high school in Kensington, Minnesota. On February 19, 1949 he married Deloris Ann Nelson in Kensington.
Donald was employed as an electrician at Eveleth Taconite. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing, the Elks, Shriners and drove one of the cars in the parades. He was a WWII Veteran. Don's interests were golf, carpentry, wood carving, and horseshoes.
Don is survived by his wife: Deloris of Hibbing; Children: Steve (Drusilla "Missi") Elmquist of Simpsonville, KY; Keith (Jean) Elmquist of Walker, MN; Gary (Elaine) Elmquist of Gilbert, MN; and Marcia (Jim) Jacobson of Hibbing, MN; Brother: Gerald (Jean) Elmquist of Roseville, CA; Sisters: Evelyn Hanson of Glenwood, MN, Mavis (Curt) Haagenson of Battle Lake, MN, Darlene Elmquist of Hoffman, MN, Ione Hagberg of Maple Grove, MN, and Shirley Lohmeyer of WY, Lois (Francis "Frank") Olson of Ft. Worth, TX; Grandchildren: Shannon (Morgan), Dr. Donald (Kristen), Sean (Chelsea), Aaron (Samantha), Lindsay (Ted), Emily (Zuhair), Sherry, Jennifer (Nathan), Jason (Jessica), Kristy (Dan); Great-grandchildren: Michael, Mitchell, Eva, Eli, Olivia, Alida, Mya, Ethan, Luke, Ava, Ryan, Noah, Cori and Seth; Great-great-grandchildren: Brecken and Maci; and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Jim and Orlin Elmquist and sister: Gladyce Chayer.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm Service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Pastor Brian Birk will Officiate. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Kensington, Minnesota.
Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Cemetery.
