Biography

Donald Lewis Mohawk, age 81, longtime resident of Hibbing died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Guardian Angels Healthcare Center in Hibbing. He was born July 25, 1931 in Sauk Centre, MN the son of Freelove Mohawk. He graduated from Alexandria High School. Donald was united in marriage to Viola Gillman on June 21, 1952, in Nebish, MN.
At the time of his retirement, Don was the owner and operator of Mohawk's Salvage – specializing in snowmobile parts. Prior to that, Don worked as a truck driver for Shell Tire Service, and the Susquehanna Mine. He was a member of the Hibbing Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years: Viola; three children: Donald (Kris) Mohawk of Nashwauk, Bonnie Lou (Ron) Norenberg of Cass Lake, and Kurt (Gail) Mohawk of Hibbing; eight siblings: Geraldine Harnois of CA, Donna Warren of IN, Margaret Antel of AZ, Lenore (Russell) Gerber of Hill City, MN, Rosie (Danny) Olson of McGregor, MN, Alvy (Jenny) Alger of Leech Lake, MN, Keith (Delores) Alger of Hill City, MN, and Willie Alger of Marble, MN; six grandchildren: Jeremy, Derek, Kelly, Brooke, Autum, and Cassidy Mohawk; and five great-grandchildren: Jordan, Kayla, Alex, Tinu, and Faye.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his son: Gerald "Gary"; and four brothers: Duane, Ronald, Knute, and Emmett.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm Funeral Service Thursday, October 11, 2012, in the Hibbing Alliance Church. The Reverend Kevin L. Norton will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
