Doris Barber, age 81 of Virginia died Monday, September 2, 2013 in St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 30, 1932 in Virginia the daughter of Axel and Olga (Michaelson) Finni. Doris grew up in Pike and was a graduate of Virginia High School. She married Greg Barber on July 2, 1952 and lived on Ely Lake for 54 years. She was employed as a housekeeper, and was a bookkeeper for Maki Motors and Bechtel and was a homemaker. Doris was a member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Polaris Dance Club, the sewing club, and the Women's Bowling League. She enjoyed reading, watching the Vikings, camp fires, camping and fishing. Doris was a "people person" who loved family gatherings, especially the fourth of July parties; and was Joyful Noise's biggest fan.
Doris is survived by children: Tom (Mayme) Barber of Sparta, Lynn (Anthony) Gregorich of Ely Lake and Kathy (Tim) LaMourea of Cook; grandchildren: Breanna and Neil Barber; Terry, Sam (Geni), Melanie (Jamie), and Casey Gregorich; Timmy (Sara) and Telly LaMourea; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Payton, Boe, Noah, RyLee, Bria, Colton, Max, and one "on the way"; half-sisters: Arlene Sipola of Orr, Debbie (Bill) Wiitanen of Pike-Sandy, and Sandy (Earl) Chamberlin of Pike Sandy; extended family and a host of friends.
Doris' family wishes to thank the Staff of St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center and the Essentia-East Range Hospice Team for their wonderful, compassionate , loving care.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband: Greg and a great-granddaughter: Junie.
A Gathering time for family and friends will be held Friday, September 6, 2013 from 12 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial service in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate.
Memorials are preferred in place of flowers.
