Doris Josephine Peterson, age 90, formerly of McKinley, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 17, 2016 at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul, MN. She was born August 13, 1925, in Mud Lake, MN the daughter of Eric and Fannie (Hill) Anderson. Doris graduated from Mt. Iron High School, and then worked as a bank teller and aircraft factory worker in California. She married Thomas Peterson of Zim, MN on December 14, 1946, and together they moved to McKinley in 1957 to raise their family.

Doris enjoyed the outdoors. She was an avid fisherwoman and loved her gardens. She was active in church groups and Women's Aglow. Doris enjoyed visiting with friends, walking with her dog, and spending time in nature at the cabin they built on Elbow Lake. She played the piano and accordion by ear.

Doris is survived by her children: Kris (Dale) Gjerde of St. Paul, Kathy Penn of Hugo, Kurt (Wendy) Peterson of Anchorage, AK, and Kerry (Ed) Gustason of Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Joyce Gazelka of Ely, and David Anderson of Crystal.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years: Tom; and her brother: Lloyd.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016, and will continue from 12:00 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service Friday, May 20, 2016, all at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Midway. Pastor Donald Norr will be the officiant. Interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.
