Obituary

Dorothie Elaine Funk, age 92 of Pengilly died Saturday, December 16, 2017 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born April 5, 1925 in Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Reese and Myrtle (Mackey) Combes, and graduated from High School in Staples, MN. Dorothie married George Funk, Sr. and was a longtime resident of the Pengilly area. She was a member of the First Church of God in Grand Rapids, and a homemaker.


Dorothie is survived by sons: Terry Funk of China and George Funk, Jr. of Pengilly; daughters: Sharyn Carringten of Duluth and Linda (Dan) Stoneberg of Blaine; grandchildren: Randall (Kris), Steven, Kim (Josh), Amber (Scott), Nathaniel (Savanna), and Layna (Brian); great-grandchildren: Ben, August, and one due in February; siblings: Margaret Nurmi and Allen Combes; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: George; and siblings.


The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the First Church of God, 609 NW 4th Ave. in Grand Rapids. Pastor Dale Steele will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am at the Church. Interment will take place in Itasca Calvary Cemetery.


Casketbearers will be: Joe Childs, Luke Vaneps, Zack Vaneps, Jeff Vaneps, Kelci Meade, and Shawn Corrigan.
