Dorothy is survived by three children: Daniel (Deborah) Carlson of Brookings, SD, Carolyn (Mark) Kvasager of Red Lake Falls, MN, and Robert (Marcy) Carlson of St. Joseph, MN; two brothers: Clifford Davis, and Joseph Davis, eight grandchildren: Patrick (Sarah), Rachel, Justin (Cassie), Sarah (Jeremy), Jay (Kayla), Angie, Whitney, and Tessa (Andy), and five great-grandchildren: Davin, Truett, Tori, Jenna, and Jaylin.
Dorothy Ellen Carlson, age 84, of Hibbing, Minnesota and formerly of Babbitt, Minnesota, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born August 20, 1926 in North Hibbing, the daughter of Daniel and Violet (Markle) Davis. She attended Hibbing schools. Dorothy was united in marriage to William (Bill) J. Carlson on September 17, 1949 in Coleraine, MN.
Dorothy was a passionate wife, mother, and homemaker. The Carlson activities revolved around her high energy and enthusiasm. There were numerous camping trips, fishing off the dock at their home on Birch Lake. Many memories were made while seining minnows, road hunting for partridge, picking blueberries, road trips with her daughter, and accompanying her sons on their beaver trapping excursions. She loved gardening and few gardens compared in size and quality to hers.
She was always game for a little fun, and that is why she loved her card games and bingo with friends. No visit to family was complete without many games of cards with her children and grandchildren. This was one of life's pleasures for Dorothy…spending time with her children, grandchildren, and brothers.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and enjoyed making pasties with the members in her church. Her family loved to eat pasties when she visited and were very disappointed if she forgot them in her freezer at home! She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and The VFW Post 8510 Auxiliary, in which she served as the local Poppy Chairman for many years.
Dorothy is survived by three children: Daniel (Deborah) Carlson of Brookings, SD, Carolyn (Mark) Kvasager of Red Lake Falls, MN, and Robert (Marcy) Carlson of St. Joseph, MN; two brothers: Clifford Davis, and Joseph Davis, eight grandchildren: Patrick (Sarah), Rachel, Justin (Cassie), Sarah (Jeremy), Jay (Kayla), Angie, Whitney, and Tessa (Andy), and five great-grandchildren: Davin, Truett, Tori, Jenna, and Jaylin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill in 1991, her sister, Verna Nessola, in 2007, and sister, Josephine at birth. She will be missed by family and friends, but she had no fear in death…it is a new beginning with Jesus her Savior.
