Edith Ann Suihkonen, age 84, longtime resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, August 06, 2013, in the Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi. She was born May 14, 1929, in Ishpeming, MI, the daughter of William and Helen Lucile (Heiser) Keese. She graduated from Virginia High School in 1947, and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Minnesota in Home Economics. Edith was united in marriage to John A. Suihkonen on July 26, 1952, in Winona, MN.
Edith worked as a homemaker. She was an active member of the 1St Presbyterian Church in Hibbing, a 60 – year member of both the PEO and the AAUW, she was on the Hibbing School Board where she served as the first female Chairperson, and she served on the Hospital Board, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Edith enjoyed reading and doing handcrafts, and she was a nature-lover.
Edith is survived by her children: Linda (Carold DeJarlais) Suihkonen, John (Jeanne Johnson-Suihkonen) Suihkonen, Carol (Vernon) Larson, all of Hibbing, David (Jen Frazho) Suihkonen of Lakeville, MN, Paul (Hang Giang) Suihkonen of Minneapolis, and Barb Stuttgen of Sartell, MN; her grandchildren: Erica Larson, Elissa (Chris) Degnan, Jared Suihkonen, Jacob Suihkonen, Johnna Suihkonen, Kalea Suihkonen, John Suihkonen, Joseph Suihkonen, Viivi Suihkonen, Eeva Suihkonen, Jack Stuttgen, and Katie Stuttgen; her great-grandson: Achaius Degnan; her sister: Kathleen Sines; and her former daughter-in-law: Mary Beth Hanson.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Virginia Keese, and Billie Lu Sater; and her loving husband: John.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 8, 2013, at 1:00 pm in the Hibbing Park "Maple Hill" Cemetery. The Reverend James Deters will officiate. The family prefers that memorials, in lieu of flowers, be directed to Team Edith via the St. Cloud Walk to End Alzheimer's.
