Obituary


Elizabeth Gunvor Kelk, 78, of Side Lake, MN and Scottsdale, AZ, died peacefully Friday, April 11th after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Tromsø, Norway in 1935, where she lived until graduating from nursing school.

After working in Chicago, IL, she accepted a position in Toronto, Canada, where she met and married Douglas Kelk. They lived in Michigan until moving to Hibbing in 1975.

Elizabeth loved to visit her native Norway throughout her life and was a member of the Sons of Norway in Hibbing. She enjoyed summers at Side Lake tending to her beloved trees and winters walking the mountain trails of Arizona.

She is survived by son Bruce (Tina) of Key West, FL, daughter Karin of Eden Prairie, MN, and grandchildren Lauren and Brandon; brother Tom Matsen of Oslo, Norway and cherished extended family and friends.

A private family burial has been held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing and a Celebration of Life will be held at Side Lake later this summer.

She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
