Eljane J. Mertely, age 94, longtime resident of Hibbing and formerly of Virginia died Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. She was born January 26, 1922, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Nels and Caroline (Korsmo) Lundberg. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and went on to receive her LPN degree. She was united in marriage to Andrew Mertely on August 22, 1965 in Hibbing.

Eljane worked as a homemaker, a nurse, a NW Bell Telephone Operator, a Sales Clerk at JC Penney, and a Hospital Clerk. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Eljane was a hospital volunteer for 30 years, she enjoyed being part of her Birthday Club, and dancing.

Eljane is survived by her husband: Andrew; four children: Kevin (Dee) Nelson of Mt. Iron, MN, Cathy (James) Anderson of Maple Grove, MN, Connie (Bob Lewis) Mitchell of Aurora, MN, and Melanie Nelson of Hibbing; her daughter-in-law: Vickie Nelson of Wadena, MN; her brother: Nels Lundberg of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Dallas (Jolene) Williams, Alyssa (Donovan) Shaughnessy, Stephanie Anderson, Jillian Anderson, Brandie Kahtava, Shawna (Jeral) Croaker, Jessie (Ryan) Schultz, Garret (Jennifer) Glanville, Seth (Jamie) Mitchell, Lindsy (Shane) Ketola, and Kali (Roger) Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son: Randy Nelson.

A Private memorial service will be held. Pastor Ben Schori will be the Officiant. Memorials are preferred.
