Ernest Rudolph "Ernie" Schmid, age 88 of  Hibbing and formerly of Fayal Twp. died Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in the Fairview Range Medical Center. He was born September 15, 1930 in Foxboro WI the son of Jacob and Martha (Meyer) Schmid and was a graduate of Superior High School, Class of 1948. Ernie married Victoria Posivio on December 27, 1958 in Sherburn, MN; and proudly served in the United Sates Army. Ernie was employed by the DM&IR Railroad, Dow Chemical, and was a co-owner of Viking Explosives.  He was a member of the Engineer's Club of Northern Minnesota; enjoyed hunting, spending time with family, and was a work-a-holic.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 60 years: Vicky; daughters: Gale (Jaime Ramfjord) Schmid of Eveleth, Lori Schmid-Spielman of Fayal Township and Barb (Brian Wald) Schmid of Forest Lake MN; former son-in-law: Brian Spielman of Lake Vermilion-Tower; grandchildren: Rachel Spielman, Tia Spielman, Dylan Wald and Jordyn Wald; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Walter, Francis, Alfred, Bill, and James Schmid.

A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home in Hibbing. A service of remembrance will begin at 2:00 p.m.  Military honors accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard.
