Evelyn "Evie"
Arntz
Jun 16, 1928 — Jul 18, 2014
Evelyn Marie Arntz bravely and thoughtfully said good-bye to her children and grandchildren and died peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Essentia Health – Virginia following a battle with respiratory illness. She was born June 16, 1928, to Anton and Jennie (Johnson) Handegard near Lake Park, MN. Evie graduated from Lake Park High School in 1945. She was united in marriage to Aldo Arntz on April 9, 1949, in Lake Park Lutheran Church. After their marriage they farmed in the Lake Park area – moving to Babbitt in 1956. Evie resided in Babbitt for 57 years. She lived at Washington Manor and Edgewood Vista in Virginia this past year.
Evie and Al owned and operated several businesses in the Babbitt Area. Evie was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt, the American Legion Auxiliary, The Taconotes Choir, the Babbitt Business Women, and several dance clubs. Her life centered around her family and family-owned businesses, and her faith. She enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, and picking berries that went into jellies, jams, muffins and pies. She was proud of her Norwegian Heritage and expressed that through the ethnic dishes that she would make. She knew the proper way and time to say "Uff-Da"!
Evie is survived by her children: Bonnie (Jack) Eickhoff of St. Cloud, MN, Greg (Jean) Arntz of Britt, MN, and Jeff (JoLynn) Arntz of Ely, MN; her grandchildren: Brian (Laura) Eickhoff, Kristin Eickhoff, Nick Arntz, AJ Arntz, Amber Arntz, and Autumn Arntz; her great-granddaughter: Maggie: her extended family and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Aldo in 2013; her brothers: Arnold, Ernest, and an infant brother Ernest; and her sisters: Alpha Jacobson and Elvira Schmitz.
