George Martin Glad, age 85, a lifelong resident of Hibbing died Sunday, May 31, 2015 with his family by his side in the compassionate care of Fairview Range North Star Hospice. He was born May 15, 1930 in Hibbing, the son of George and Josephine (Muvrin) Glad and attended Cherry High School. George married Shirley Olson on August 29, 1953, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed as a supervisor for Range Cornice Roofing for 45 years and was a consultant for Nelson Roofing until retiring at age 78. George was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing, Mesaba Lodge # 255 AF & AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Hibbing and Duluth, AAD Temple Shrine, Mesaba Range Shrine Club, Hibbing Elks Lodge # 1022, and VFW Post #8510. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially spearing, travelling, wintering in Gold Canyon, AZ, and helping others. George's greatest joy was spending time with his family.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years: Shirley; son: Rick (Hillarie) Glad of Hibbing; daughters: Nancy (Dan) Burkes, Terry (Chris) Liesmaki, and Michelle (Jim) Perry all of Hibbing; grandchildren: Nicole, Rian, Tammy, Christopher, Megan, Jake, Connor, Abigail, Mikko, Manni; great-grandchildren: Ayva, Emma, Kael, Peyton, Sylvia, Ruby Jo, and Leo; siblings: Mary Merila of Minneapolis and Frances Hansen of Ocala, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children; sisters: Tona Radovich, Kay White, Sophia Supanich, Josephine Thomas, and Goldie Glad; brothers: William Glad and Joe Glad.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Pastor Kevin Olson will officiate. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. A Masonic Funeral Rite will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in the Hibbing Park – Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are the preferred way to honor George's memory and may be directed to the Shriner's Children Hospital, Fairview Range North Star Hospice or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
