George John Rogich, age 83, of Hibbing, went to a peaceful place to watch over his family; as he lost his fight with liver disease. He was born January 5, 1926 in Hibbing, MN the son of Joe and Anna (Musich) Mrkonjich. He graduated from Hibbing High School and went to college to become a boiler engineer. George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He married Delores Eckman in 1947, and they made their home in Kelly Lake. While living in Hibbing, George worked for the Hibbing High School as their boiler engineer. He then went to work at the Hibbing Vocational-Technical College at the same time drove school bus. During his working years, he was the Union Representative for the High School. George was involved with politics for several years, working with Rudy Perpich. He retired at age 54 and moved to the Makinen area where he hobby farmed. George served on the Arrowhead Library Board, and the St. Louis County Planning and Zoning Board. He was a hard-working man of integrity who loved to collect old farm equipment, several other items yet to be discovered, and Ford Mustangs. His strong influence in education, and work ethic will be carried on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
George is survived by children: Kristine (Joel) Anderson, April (Steve) Johnson, Patricia Beuning, George (Pam) Rogich, Dan (Judy) Rogich, Elizabeth (Curt) Tuma, Naomi Tollefson, Virginia (Cliff) Dochterman, Charles (Meda) Rogich, Anna (Jeff) Passeri, Peder (Denise) Rogich, and Rai Walden Rogich; 31 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law: Walter Beuning, an infant granddaughter; and his former wife: Delores Rogich.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Military Honors will be accorded by VFW Post #8510.
