Georgina Johnson, age 97, of Tower and formerly of Ely, died Thursday, October 4, 2012, in the Golden Horizons Nursing Home in Tower. She was born December 28, 1914 in Rainy River, Ontario, Canada the daughter of Robert and Agnes (Duffy) Corrigan. Georgina graduated from Rainy River High School and completed one year of nursing school in Winnipeg, Canada when she married J. Algot Johnson of Tower, MN on December 17, 1934.
Georgina was extremely active in several of Tower's organizations including: member and past president of Tower's Women's Civic improvement Club, Victor Rebekah Lodge of Tower where she served as Noble Grand and district President, American Legion Auxiliary Post #245, Tower-Soudan Historical Society, Loyal Chapter #156 of the Eastern Star, Clerk of Tower Municipal Court for many years, Vermilion range Old Settlers Association, Girl Scout Leader, Greenwood-Tower-Soudan Bridge Club, former president of the Tenants Association at Lakeview Manor, and a member of St. James Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Ely and the Ely Bridge Club. Georgina loved her MN Twins and Vikings and she never missed a game. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and visiting.
Georgina is survived by her son: Kendall (Sharon) of Babbitt; grandsons: LCDR William (Marideth) Paetz US Navy retired of Virginia Beach, VA, Patrick (Robin) Paetz of Mustang, OK, Cort (Liz) Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL, and Brett (Beth) Johnson of Front Royal, VA; granddaughters: Georgina (Larry) Ford of Bate City, MO, Rori Johnson of Virginia, MN; great-grandsons: Patrick Ryan Paetz of Mustang, OK, Mathew Ford of Bates City, MO; special cousin: Irene McEntyre of Ely; sister-in-law: Dorothy Corrigan of Kamloops, British Columbia; special friend: Sue Miller; and several other nieces and nephews in Canada and the US.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: J. Algot on June 29, 1984; daughter: Glynda Carter; brothers: Bud, Rod, Alvin, and Keith: sisters: Marvel Drennen and Avora Bate: and great-granddaughter: Kathy Bush.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm memorial service Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in the St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower. The Reverend Nathan Williams will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Tower. Memorials are preferred to the Potter's Field Fund at the Embarrass Vermillion Credit Union in Tower.
