Gladys Lillian Martinson Tanem, age 94 of Hibbing died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. She was born July 30, 1921 in Marsh Grove Township, Marshall County, Minnesota the seventh child of John and Martha (Matison) Martinson and attended Karlstad Schools. Gladys married Arne E. Tanem on August 3, 1941 in Halma, MN and was a longtime resident of Hibbing. Gladys was employed as a housekeeper for Mel and Daisy Sachs for many years and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and its Ladies Guild; the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a lifelong member of the Sons of Norway Midnatsolen Lodge # 058. Gladys enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, visiting her nieces and nephews, embroidery, crocheting, gardening and canning, and baking. She was a good and loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma.

Gladys is survived by her children: Clarice Dahl of El Paso, TX, Loyal (Barbara) Tanem of Hibbing and Mark (Shirley) Tanem of Hibbing; grandchildren: Tammy Dahl, Keith Tanem, Dale (Ginger) Tanem, Leann (Matt) Lind, Melissa (David) Burkholder, Justin (Mutsuko) Tanem, Laura (Cat) Hernandez, and Andrew (Jihyo) Tanem; great-grandchildren: Kristen, Hunter, Trapper, Howie, Emmett, Asher, Jake, Leia, Jaret, Evan and Ryan; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Arne, daughters: Janet and Debra; son-in-law: Peter Dahl; daughter-in-law: Kathy Tanem; and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Pastor Ben Schori will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Hibbing Park – Maple Hill Cemetery.
