Gordon John Poirier, age 84 of Hibbing passed away Thursday, July 9, 2014 in his home with his family by side. He was born February 1, 1930 in Penobscott Location, the son of John and Esther (Van Camp) Poirier and was a lifelong resident of Hibbing. Gordon married Shirley Tappe on August 11, 1947 and later married Nancy Ann Ingberg on November 28, 1987. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic for Hibbing Taconite, retiring in 1983. Gordon was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hibbing and the former Moose Club in Hibbing. He enjoyed woodworking, farming, gardening, horses and carriages, and sleigh rides.
Gordon is survived by his wife: Nancy; daughters: Judy Gonzalez of Palm Harbor, FL, Cherlynn (Harry) Brumbaugh of Fairmont, MN, Kay Ranger of Nashwauk, MN and Candy (Greg) Clark of Hibbing; sisters: Alberta (Rudy) Christenson of Hibbing, MN and Jeanette Poirier of Loganville, GA; stepson: Todd (Jenny) Ingberg of Hibbing; the mother of his daughters: Shirley Poirier of Hibbing; grandchildren: Curtis Ranger, Misty (Joseph) Lind, Stacy (Tagert) Southerland, Greg (Courtney) Brumbaugh, and Kamie (Matthew) Clark-Moen; great-grandchildren: Tristan, Chloe, Jaxon, Shelbi, Cody, Riley, and Madison; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Joyce, Betty, and Esther "Happy"; and a son-in-law: Barney Ranger.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue Monday, July 14, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service in the First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Pastor Ben Schori will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hibbing Park – Maple Hill Cemetery.
