Helen Erickson, age 98, longtime resident of Hibbing and formerly of Chisholm and Pool Location, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Guardian Angels Healthcare Center with her daughter-in-law, Pam Karich at her side. She was born, January 14, 1917, in Chisholm the daughter of Frank and Helen (Paraska) Slakanich. She graduated from Chisholm High School. Helen was united in marriage to Ingwald Erickson on August 8, 1936, in Chisholm.
Helen worked as a homemaker. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Helen was best known for her nurturing and caring manner and her excellent cooking and baking – especially her Potica, Perogi, and Pastys.
Helen is survived by three sons: Richard (Kay) Erickson of Plymouth, MN, Ronald Erickson of Hibbing, and Allan Erickson of Side Lake; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Ingwald; her son: David; two brothers: Mike and George Slakanich; five sisters: Ann Person, Mildred Kangas, Lorraine Mullin, Eva Moody, and Olga Harvey; and two grandsons: David and Andy Erickson.
Visitation will be from 10:30 am until the 11:30 am Funeral Service Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Pastor Kevin Olson will officiate. Casket bearers will be: Mark Erickson, Jason Koehnen, Jeffrey Ramsden, Chad Klopp, Ryan Moberg, and John Wiita. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church in Hibbing.
