Helen Jeanette Whiting, age 85 of Ely died Sunday, October 15, 2017 in the Ely Bloomenson Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 30, 1932 in Embarrass, the daughter of Richard and Fannie (Pulkinen) Niemi; and married Joseph Whiting on June 17, 1950 in Ely. Helen grew up in Embarrass, lived in Ely, and on Armstrong Lake prior to returning to Ely in 1969. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star; enjoyed dancing {especially polkas}, crossword and jig saw puzzles, knitting, crocheting, traveling, camping and fishing. She cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen is survived by children: Sherri (Bill) Dimich of Babbitt, Diane (Paul) Myers of Ely, Jerome (Brenda) Whiting of Ely, and Julie (David) Rhein of Winton; grandchildren: April, Triston, Bruce, Craig, Brock, Joey, LeAnn, Andrea, Marlayna, Jennifer, and Marissa; great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Morgan, Aaylah, Addison, Jace, Hadleigh, Kensley, Breckyn, Cooper, Bobby, Jade, Amaris, and "one on the way"; sisters: Lillian Angelo and Martha Norha both of Virginia; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Joseph; son: Rick Whiting; and siblings: Eleanor, Art, and Ben.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
