Herbert Galen Finney, age 77, a lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Hillcrest Parkside in Hibbing. He was born January 25, 1932 in Hibbing, the son of Herbert E. and Vivian (Cochran) Finney. He attended school in Hibbing. On May 4, 1951, he married Mildred Bloom in Duluth, MN. They were married 57 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving in the 47th Infantry Division. He was employed as a Sanitation Supervisor for the City of Hibbing. He also worked for the Railway Express. He attended Hibbing Alliance Church, was a member of the Mesaba Country Club, and coached Youth Hockey, Cobb-Cook Squirts, and PeeWees. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Herb is survived by his wife, Millie; children, Gayle (Don) Jepsen of Fairhope, AL, Lynn Ellefson of Sun City, AZ, Kathy (Dan) Grzybowski of Hibbing, Sandy Erickson of Hibbing, and Tom (Renea) Finney of Okeechobee, FL; grandchildren, David, Brent and Adam Jepsen, Melissa (Chad) Hill, Christopher (Trish) Ellefson, Stephanie Ellefson, Brian (Melissa) Grzybowski, Eric Grzybowski, Angie (Josh) Weaver, Matt and Steven Erickson, and Tyler and Elijah Finney; great-grandchildren, Allison, Jordan, Taylor, Porsha, Jack, Lucy, and Amelia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy and Peggy; and son-in-law, David Ellefson.
Visitation will be Friday, February 13, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home and will continue Saturday, February 14, 2009 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service at the Hibbing Alliance Church. Reverend Kevin L. Norton will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
Casketbearers will be Herb's grandsons.
