Herbert Oliver "Herb" Kangas, age 60 of Sandy Township died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia. He was born August 24, 1951 in Virginia the son of Otto and Melva (Prout) Kangas. Herb married Sharon Lehto on June 7, 1975 in Virginia and was a lifelong resident of Sandy Township. He had worked as a maintenance mechanic, but was a farmer at heart. Herb enjoyed reading, working with his computer, watching movies and television. He was known for his uncanny knack of knowing other people's needs and his sense of humor. Herb's primary passion was his family. He cherished the time spent with his wife, daughters and grandchildren and loved to spoil them with love, attention, and shopping trips.
Herb is survived by his wife of 36 years: Sharon; daughters: Kristen (Troy Oklak) Kangas of Chaska, MN, Amanda (Bradley) Lahti of Robbinsdale, MN, and Nicole (Josh) Brown of Robbinsdale, MN; grandchildren: Sienna Kangas, Oliver Brown, Preston Lahti, Ryder Kangas, and another on the way; father: Otto Kangas of Sandy Township; sister: Sandra (Stan) Zagrabelny of Britt; Mother-in-law: Doris Lehto of Embarrass; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Melva Kangas.
A gathering time for family and friends will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 3:30 p.m. until the 4:00 p.m. Memorial Service in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. Pastor Ben Buchanan will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Embarrass Cemetery.
