Herbert Eugene Young, age 81 of Embarrass died Saturday, July 2, 2016 in the Essentia Health Care Center – Virginia. He was born February 15, 1935 in Rochester, MN the son of Hubert and Edna (Morehead) Young, grew up in the Grand Rapids, MN area and moved to Embarrass in 1974. Herb married Ilene Barsness on November 21, 1978 in Embarrass and together they operated Herb Young Trucking. He was also employed by several other trucking firms, worked for Reserve Mining, and Mesabi Bituminous. Herb enjoyed camping, woodworking, was a motorcycle and train enthusiast, and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Herb is survived by his wife of 37 years: Ilene Young; children: Mike (Gina) Vanderflute of South Carolina, Kim (Lloyd) Thole of Austin, TX, Teri (Dale) Benoit of Milaca, Jenny (Steve) Sass of Vail, AZ, Eugene (Beebee) Young of Round Rock, TX, Brent (Shannon) Westerberg of Mesa, AZ, Nancy (Erik) Hjelm of Andover, Dave Barsness of Babbitt, and Brian Barsness of Rosemount; brother: J. Hugh (Cathy) Young of Hibbing; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Jerry & Walter Young, and son: Jeff Barsness.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt. Pastor Evelyn Weston will officiate. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the Church. Inurnment will take place in the Embarrass Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
