Irene Janice Laakso, age 70, of Hibbing and formerly of Silver Bay, and Grand Rapids, passed Monday, April 4, 2011 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. She was born February 16, 1941 in North Hibbing, the daughter of Ennu and Eleanor (Arnebeck) Ylatupa.
Irene worked as a beautician, and was employed at Goldfine's in Grand Rapids. She enjoyed growing plants and watching birds – especially hummingbirds.
Irene is survived by her son: John Laakso of Hibbing; her brothers: Billy (Fran) Ylatupa of Silver Bay, MN, and James Ylatupa of Nashwauk, MN; her sisters: Carol (Robert) Weik of Mesa, AZ, and Karen (Wallace) Benson of Hibbing; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Wallace, and her daughter Jane.
A private family service will be planned for a later date.
